Fork Conversations let you create a copy of a conversation and explore different directions without affecting the original.
How It Works
- Start with an existing conversation
- Fork it at any point
- Explore a different direction
- Keep the original conversation intact
When to Fork
- Different approaches: Try multiple solutions to the same problem
- What-if scenarios: Explore "what if" questions
- Backup: Create a safety copy before making changes
- Collaboration: Share a starting point with others
How to Fork
Fork Entire Conversation
- Open a conversation
- Click the three-dot menu
- Select Fork Conversation
- Choose a name for the fork
- Start exploring the new direction
Fork From a Point
- Find the message you want to fork from
- Hover over the message
- Click the Fork icon
- Name your fork
- Continue from that point
What Gets Forked
- Messages: All messages up to the fork point
- Context: The conversation context
- Settings: Current model and settings
- Documents: Referenced documents
What Doesn't Get Forked
- Future messages: Only messages up to the fork point
- Memory: Forked conversations have separate memory
- Sharing settings: You need to set up sharing again
Tips
- Name clearly: Use descriptive names for forks
- Compare results: Run the same prompt in different forks
- Merge insights: Take the best ideas from each fork
- Clean up: Delete forks you don't need
Privacy
- Forked conversations are private by default
- You control who can see each fork
- Forks don't affect the original conversation
- You can delete any fork at any time
